Welcome to Day 4 of Lilah Sew along. By now you have your bodice constructed. Next you will want to attach the skirt to your bodice.
But before you do that;
- Make sure you basted the the bottom of the bodices together
- Did a quick fit check If not, make sure you do this before continuing.
- For woven version: before you continue, you need to add skirt placket to the front skirt first. This will help to get into your child ‘s head easily.
Adding Skirt placket (woven version only)
You can follow either Step 6 of the pattern tutorial or follow photos tutorial in this post.
Lilah Top & Dress Sew Along: Inseam Pockets hack!
Next you are going to prepare the skirt but before you do that we got a pocket hack for you! Cool right?!
I remember during Lilah Testing, some testers wanted to have option for inseam pockets. I knew it was a great idea so I saved it for later. I think later is now don’t you think? Because who doesn’t love dresses with pockets?! I know my daughter will be so thrilled to find out that her new Lilah has pockets! She loves to carry her unicorn horse everywhere she goes nowadays. I find it so cute!!
Here is how.
First you will need a pocket pattern. Now worries I drafted it for you. You can download the pattern in our Facebook group. under Files. Don’t forget to blend your pockets too when blending sizes (You should blend for width and length).
Cut 4 pieces of pockets (2 pairs mirrored).
Finish the raw edges of all your pocket pieces. I really forgot to do this step earlier and it was a struggle to finish them later after already attached to the skirt 😉
Mark the pocket placements on your skirt using the numbers given in the table below. You measure from the top of the skirt raw edges. See photo below.
With right sides together, align the pocket with the skirt pocket placement. Sew it on the skirt using 3/8″ (1cm) seam allowance. Repeat this step to all pocket pieces.
Press the seam allowance towards the pockets and topstitch on the right side of the pockets.
With right sides together, sew the front skirt to the back skirt. Don’t forget to sew around the pockets. Finish edges of the skirt.
You did it!
Next post is attaching the skirt to the bodice.
See you soon.
Happy Sewing xx
