Button loops can add soft charm and that vintage look to any dress.  Our Nina Dress is perfect for this. Such a cute little vintage dress! Perfect as a flower girl dress.

Today I have a tutorial for you! We are using our Nina Dress pattern for this.

Shall we begin?

Tutorial: How To Create Loop Buttons

Note: You need our Nina Dress Pattern to do this. And we will use a fabric strap to create our button loops for this tutorial.

Let’s follow these steps!

Tutorial: How To Create Loop Buttons

Step 1: Place the button loop piece of fabric RS facing UP.  Take a roll of ribbon or elastic tube in this case not wider than ¼” (0.5 cm) and lay it on top of the fabric piece (at the centre) from one short end to the other. This will be used later to pull the fabric inside out.

Secure one end of the ribbon or elastic tube. DO NOT SECURE THE OTHER END.

Step 2: Fold the piece of fabric in half lengthways RS facing and pin it in place with the raw edges touching on the left hand side as you look at it. Sew using 1/4” (0.5 cm) seam allowance. Trim the seam allowances.

Note: Make sure you don’t  catch the ribbon or the elastic tube when sewing.

Step 3: Next scrunch and slide the tube to turn it RS out. When the tube is RS out, cut off the ribbon or elastic as close as you can from the raw edge.

Step 4: Cut the button loops in the amount and size you prefer.

Tip: Use your buttons as a guide to work out how large each loop will need to be.
