There are two methods to do this. Both are very easy to do. We will therefore discuss both in details here.
Shall we begin?
Tutorial: How To Add Neckband To Sai Pyjamas
Note: You will need our Sai Onesie PJs pattern for this.
Let’s follow these steps!
Method 1: Placket First, Neckband later
To follow this method you will need to create the placket first. Go to this link to learn how.
Next, we will need to close the short edges of the neckband.
Step 1: Take your neckband and fold it in half RS together and sew the short edges on each end.
Grade seams and turn it RS out. Press.
Step 2: Take your neckband and mark the centre back on the neckband, and on the neckline of the garment.
Place the neckband on the long side with the RS on the RS of the neckline main piece, make sure the raw edges are aligned. Sew.
Step 3: Finish the edges and press them towards the main piece. Topstich with twin needle or a zigzag stitch.

You are done!
Let’s go for method 2, shall we?
Method 2: Placket & Neckband together
Step 1: Take your neckband and fold it in half RS together and sew the short edges on each end. Grade seams and turn it RS out. Press.
Step 2: Follow step 1- 3 of the pattern tutorial to sew the front and back pieces together at the shoulder. Take your front piece and finish the left placket with the lock machine or zigzag stitch. This will be the overlapping side. Fold the finished edge 1/2” (1.25 cm) towards the WS. Press. Next, fold the right placket two times 1/2” (1.25 cm) towards the WS. Press as well.
In the end you will have something like this! One side fold only once and the opposite side fold twice.
Now get ready to attach the neckband.
Step 3: Take one short side of the neckband and align it with the side that was fold once RS on the RS. Like this;
Step 4: Now unfold the folded part and place on top pf the neckband RS together. Like this;
Pin.
Step 5: Now repeat step 4-5 on the other side of the neckline only this time you only unfold once. Like this;
Pin everywhere and make sure your neckband is equally distributed around the neckline.
Sew with stretch stitch or serge around the neckline.
You are done!
See both methods are fine. It’s up to you to choose what you like 😉 Go ahead and finish it off with cute little snap buttons!
Stand back & enjoy your amazing work!
